I find this to be a great initiative, but I could see potential problems in the future getting donation. First off, donation will come in small amount and there will be people who are unsure of the legitimacy of the site. Furthermore, in this recession people will be more reluctant to donate. What I would recommend is trying a initiative that I do not think has been done before. You should give people the option to donate a small amount of time of their day as a donation. Let me explain: If under your donation page you have to links, one for real donation and the other for donating by spending time. On the page were it is time there would be a long list of advertisement that people could click on and view. All the revenue you get from the advertisements on that page you would use as donated funds. If you are really ambitious you could take it a step further and add a small a small counter that would say: "You have donated X amount and helped out Y many people." People being able to see directly how much they are helping without spending more than a few minutes would greatly encourage them. Furthermore, you could ask people to set it as their home page and add a Google search to the page (as the most common homepage is Google), so they could still Google right when they open their browser, but would also donate a little money. The simplest advertisement, if you choose to follow my idea, I think is AdSense by Google. The next two statements are from a forum showing how much a add click gets:
One site ranked around #25 in the SERPs for it's keywords. AdSense paid roughly $0.10 per click. As it slowly moved up in natural rankings, so did the AdSense per click payout, until now it's top 5 and it gets $1.50 per click on average (nothing else has changed).

Well thank you for reading this entire thing, I really do think that this would really help improve the site. I have talked to some of my friends and most of them responded that they would be interested in clicking advertisements for 30 seconds each day, but not only one said he might be interested in donating actual money. Whether or not you decide to follow the idea, I wish you good luck with the website.

  4. Well, the problem is that most of these companies including AdSense will ban your account if you ask for people to click in any way shape or form, so this will become and immediate ban.

The counters a good idea though, and we will probably have some advertising campaigns to raise money in the near future. Look out for it!

  5. I have to admit I got my idea from websites like these, http://www.neobux.com/?r=bubis. I recall also seeing them else where. I do not know whether sites like there that pay you for visiting sponsored advertisements are legitimate, but I feel it is worth looking into (I have never tried it). It might not be the risk of being banned though.
